What Are My Alternatives to LASIK?

image2343Though LASIK is our most popular method of vision correction surgery, not everyone is an ideal candidate. Fortunately, at Aloha Laser Vision, we offer a number of LASIK alternatives for patients who still want to significantly reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contacts:

  • PRK: Photorefractive keratectomy, or PRK, is a laser treatment designed to resurface the cornea to improve your vision. If your cornea is too thin or pupils too large for LASIK surgery, PRK does not require a corneal flap and may be a good option for you.
  • Phakic IOLs: If you have an extreme case of myopia (nearsightedness), LASIK and PRK may not be the most effective method of treating your condition. Phakic intraocular lenses (IOLs) are surgically implanted in the eye and can supplement the eye’s natural lenses for improved vision without reshaping the cornea.
  • Visian ICL: One of the newest innovations in intraocular lenses, the Visian ICL is uniquely designed to require a smaller incision during surgery than other IOL alternatives. The Visian ICL is also composed of a proprietary material made of polymer plastic and collagen for increased flexibility. As a result, this lens can be placed behind the iris and is virtually invisible to the naked eye.

During the consultation process, your eye surgeon will discuss your personal goals and which alternative to LASIK surgery might achieve the best results. For more information about our LASIK alternatives, or to schedule a consultation, please contact us today.
