Traditional LASIK vs. Custom Wavefront Optimized™ LASIK

The “traditional” or “standard” LASIK mode that is used on most lasers does not account for a patient’s pre-existing corneal shape and is not designed to adequately treat the peripheral cornea. The result is the creation of spherical distortions or aberrations that cause a decrease in the quality of vision and an increase in glare, particularly at night. These aberrations tend to increase with higher treatments. The ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q brings you closer to achieving your desire for perfect vision. This technology, built by WaveLight, represents a new generation in laser vision technology. From the start, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q was designed to provide custom LASIK™ treatments by incorporating wavefront principles into each procedure while adjusting the treatment to the patient’s unique corneal curvature. Wavefront Guided vs. Wavefront Optimized™ LASIK

Wavefront Guided (WFG) treatments are performed using measurements taken by a wavefront analyzer (an aberrometer) that measures how light travels through the eye. These measurements are transferred to the laser and determine the treatment pattern. The goal of Wavefront Guided LASIK treatment is to treat “higher order” aberrations beyond nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Data shows that only about five percent of eyes require Wavefront Guided treatment when Wavefront Optimized™ treatments are available. Only ALLEGRETTO WaveLight lasers have Wavefront Optimized™ custom LASIK™ treatments. All our Honolulu, Hawaii patients are measured with the Wavefront Analyzer to determine the appropriate treatment for their eyes.
